WOMEN'S HOCKEY
Cherie Hendrickson of Boxford will be among the players protected by the new Boston team when the Canadian Women's Hockey League holds its first-ever Women's Elite Hockey Draft tonight at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Hendrickson, who starred at the Brooks School and Providence College, will be among the players protected by the Boston CWHL team. The CWHL is currently restructuring the league and will now feature five new teams: Montreal, Boston, Brampton, Burlington and Toronto. Each team will have the opportunity to select the world's top female hockey players to participate in the official tryouts held in September.
FOOTBALL
Peabody Pop Warner is still accepting registrations for football players for the 2010 season. Participants must be at least seven years old and no older than 15 by July 31 of this year. BASEBALL
The deadline for Peabody Western Little League fall ball registration has been moved up to Sunday, Aug. 15 at Lt. Ross Field (Cy Tenny Park) from 12 p.m.-3 p.m. Opening Day is Aug. 22. Visit PWLL.net for more information and applications. PWLL will also honor the Mike's Wish Foundation with a battle of the bands on Saturday, Aug. 7 from 3 p.m.-9 p.m. at Lt. Ross Field. Tickets will be $5 with proceeds being donated to the foundation.

Legends Baseball tryouts will be held at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody and at the Legends Baseball Facility in Middleton. Tryout dates are Aug. 13, 14 and 15 for 10-Under, 11U and 12U players, and on Aug. 20, 21 and 22 for 13-Under, 14U, 15U, 16U and 18U players. VOLLEYBALL
The 10th annual Benjamin T. Bradley Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held Aug. 14-15 at West Beach in Beverly Farms. Cost of the tournament is $35 per player, which includes the double elimination tourney, a T-shirt and a post-tournament cookout ticket. There are two divisions: a Pro Division of 3-on-3 teams (which can be co-ed) and a JV Division of 5-of-5, with teams being predominately female. Preliminary rounds will be held Saturday and Sunday morning, with the finals in each division being played on Sunday afternoon. Prizes will be given out at the end of competition to the winning teams, tournament MVP, for Best Uniforms and many other superlatives. Raffles and prizes will also be given out all weekend. Registration forms are available at the Bradley home on 3 Dyer Road in Beverly Farms and at Todd's Sporting Goods on 393 Cabot Street in Beverly. Tickets are also available for $12 for those who don't want to play but do wish to attend the cookout.
FALL SPORTS REGISTRATION
The Swampscott High School fall sports meeting for parents and athletes will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. All high school students who intend to play a fall sport must attend with a parent or guardian.

The Beverly High sports registration and parent information night will be held on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. for all incoming freshmen and Aug. at 6 p.m. for all sophomore-senior parents and athletes. The presentations will be held in the upper gym. This will be the only two preseason meetings of the year. All athletes/parents interested in a fall, winter or spring sport should attend.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Registration for North Shore Flag Football League's fall season is now open through Sept. 19. Cost is $70 per child, which includes a minimum six weeks of flag football along with an official NFL flag football jersey to keep, official NFL flag belt, football for the team, certificate of excellence from the NFL and trophies for all finalists. Participants can register at www.northshoreflagfootball.com or www.NFLFLAG.com, or by printing the registration and waiver forms from the web site and mailing them in.
