Danvers' Meghan Duggan has been named captain of the 2010-11 Wisconsin women's hockey team, the university and head coach Mark Johnson announced yesterday.
The talented winger is returning to the Badgers for her senior season after taking last year off to compete in the Vancouver Olympic Games. Duggan scored four goals over the course of the Olympics and helped Team USA win the silver medal.
Wisconsin, which figures to be one of the favorites to win the NCAA title in 2010-11, will benefit from Duggan's leadership and scoring ability. An assistant captain during her junior season in 2008-09, Duggan has helped Wisconsin win two NCAA titles already in her career in addition to a runner-up finish.
A three-time All-WCHA honoree, Duggan has 151 career points in 118 games. She is Wisconsin's all-time leader in postseason points and ranks in the top 10 of multiple Badger scoring categories: goals (69, fourth-best all-time), assists (82, ninth), power play goals (20, fifth).
Seniors Mallory Deluce and Geena Prough as well as fellow Olympian and junior Hilary Knight will act as assistant captains along with Duggan.
