Weekend area roundup: Phillies one game away from NSBL title

North Shore 12, Kingston 4: The Phillies took a 3-game-to-2 lead in the Best-of-7 championship series. North Shore scored six times in the third to break the game open and handed Steve Considine his first loss of the summer. Kingston had won, 4-3, on Saturday to even the series at two games each. Game six will be played tonight at Haverhill (8:15).


Swampscott survives: The Swamspcott/Nahant Gallant team fell behind rival Marblehead, 5-0, in an elimination game yesterday but rallied to win, 7-5, to stay alive in the 2013 tournament. Swampscott faces Amebsury today in the elimination bracket final, with the winner needing to defeat Lynn twice to take the title.

Swampscott also defeated Peabody, 5-0, earlier on Sunday while Marblehead topped Salem, 7-3. Lynn beat Amesbury, 10-5, to stay unbeaten in tournament play and advance to the championship.


Peabody 9, Beverly 1: The kids from the Tanner City stayed alive by toppling the hosts and will play tonight for a spot in the final.

Danvers 10, Manchester 2: Danvers improved to 3-0 in Panther invitational play and has scored ten runs in every game so far. They advance to the tournament finals to be played Tuesday against the winner of today’s Peabody/Manchester contest.
