2013 SALEM NEWS TEAM BY TEAM BOYS SOCCER PREVIEWS

St. John’s Prep

Last year’s record: 17-2-2 (Lost in Div. 1 finals)

Head coach: Dave Crowell (13th season)

Captains: Corey Lang, Sr., D; Anthony Vigliotta, Sr., F; Matt Chilton, Sr., F.

Other players to watch: Andrew Cahill, Sr., D; Liam Welch, Sr., M; Greg French, Sr., M; Mike Lanza, Sr., F; Jarred Costa, Sr., GK; Bobby Holmes, Sr., GK; Zach Rowell, Jr., GK; Paul Magazzu, Jr., F; Brendan Beuchert, Jr., D; Peter Kilcommons, Jr., D; Tom Erickson, Jr., D.

Coach’s outlook: “We’re looking to win the Catholic Conference again and qualify for the tournament. We graduated the core of the team from last year and have only four returning starters. We’re still extremely competitive with a lot of kids that can play different positions.”

Danvers

Last year’s record: 14-4-1 (Lost in Div. 3 quarterfinals)

Head coach: Mike Chase (4th season)

Captains: Zack Noring, Sr., M; Matt Kidney, Sr., D.

Other players to watch: Caio Silva, Sr., M; Cam Bornstein, So., GK; Nikolay Sakhin, Jr., F.

Coach’s outlook: “We’re not as strong as we have been in the past. There were a lot of good players that graduated and there are some holes we need to fill. Defensively, we’re good — that’s our strength. Matt Kidney really solidifies everything at sweep and holds it down.”

Peabody

Last year’s record: 9-5-5 (Lost in Div. 1 first round)

Head coach: Stan McKeen (18th season)

Captains: C.J. Alimonti, Sr., M/F; Ben Britton, Sr., M; Connor Bombaci, Sr., D.

Other players to watch: Robert Smith, Sr., GK; Ben Manoogian, Jr., M; Connor Wolf, Jr., M; Ryan Wolf, Sr., D; Alex Tisi, Jr., D; Christian Morales, Jr., D; Vinicious Dosantos, Sr., M; Jake Silva, Sr., F.

Coach’s outlook: “I’m pleased with the way we look so far. We graduated 13 kids and have a fairly young team. We have seven seniors and the rest are all juniors. I like our intensity. We’re not a big team size wise, but we have a lot of skill and speed, which will be key for us. We’re hoping for the best and just want to get off to a good start.”
