Friday's area roundup: Masconomet field hockey opens season with win


Hamilton-Wenham 2, Triton 0: Goals from Maddi Berthoud and Emma Beane enabled the Generals to prevail. Caroline Gribbell and Audrey Hammerl had assists in the season opening triumph while Suz Rose was brilliant defensively. Carolyn Cook, Jill Kefalas and Phoebe Shaw were other defensive stalwarts for H-W.

North shore techT/Essex Aggie 7, Lynn Tech 0: Junior Keely Gallagher recorded a hat trick for the Bulldogs in their first game of the season. Junior Makayla Norden added two goals, while senior captain Audry Hamilton and junior Anna Harriman each contributed with one. Sophomore goalie Sarah Cantwell earned the shutout as the NST continues with league play at home on Monday.

Revere 1, Everett 0: Paolo Ortez had the game’s only goal for the Patriots, while Cassandra DiBella earned the shutout in goal in a season opening win.

Salem Academy 2, Pioneer Charter 2: Midfielder Hannah Magee netted both goals for Salem Academy (0-1-1).



Hamilton-Wenham 2, Triton 0: The Generals opened their season with a shutout victory on the road. Sophomore center midfielder Tom Dowd headed in the first goal off a direct kick 17 minutes into the second half, while senior captain Russell Gregorian netted his first of the season 10 minutes later. Senior Henry Eagar got the shutout, turning away 10 shots. H-W also saw outstanding play from senior captain Frankie Bucco at sweeper, as well as Drew Gallant and Aidan Prior in the midfield.

Pioneer Charter 6, Salem Academy 1: Senior Tyler Mckee scored midway through the second half as the Navigators drop their first game of the season.


Salem 3, Medford 0: The Witches (1-1) were led offensively by setter Stephanie Adorno-Martinez who picked up seven aced and 12 service points, sweeping Medford 25-23, 25-15, 25-18. Senior middle hitter Julia Florence finished with six kills and Meaghan Zipper contributed with five kills.


GuLLs split at Endicott Invitational: Endicott took its first game of the Invitational, topping Plymouth State 3-1. Setter Alleigh VandeMerkt guided an efficient offense, collecting 34 assists. Callie Dolan finished with 11 kills, while Sierra Kenkel added 11 digs in the victory for the Gulls. Endicott, however, was defeated in straight sets by Williams (25-21, 25-21, 25-2) in the second game of the evening. Mackenzie Guerre led the way with nine kills and Jackie Cone added 10 digs.


Gordon 4, Husson University 1: Evan Crocker scored a pair of goals to lead the Fighting Scots to their second win of the season. Caleb Cole and Torrey Stricklin netted singles scores, while Tim Hardy picked up the win in goal.
