COLLEGE SOFTBALL
endicott SWEEPS gordon: Endicott improved to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a doubleheader sweep of Gordon, 15-1 and 8-0, in its home opener.
Senior pitcher Jenna Bortolotti won her third straight game with a three-hitter and sophomore Krista Fales (3 for 3 with three RBI) paced the offense as Endicott erupted for 14 runs in the first two innings of the opener. Gordon's only run came on an infield single by senior Kristen Terry.
Jennie Lacolla handcuffed Gordon in game two with a four-hitter. Ashley Wright spiced the offense with three doubles and a pair of RBI.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
GULLS SPLIT: Benjamin Petrides tossed three shutout innings to pick up the save in a 3-2 win over WNEC after Endicott (12-7) dropped the opening game of the double header, 5-2. Mike Russo smashed a two RBI double in the bottom of the second for the Gulls while Jake Northrup picked up the eventual game-winning RBI on a base hit to centerfield. Kevin Dupras went four strong innings on the mound to pick up his first win of the season for Endicott, which is 4-2 in TCCC play.
gordon loses two: The Fighting Scots dropped both on the day to move to 3-14 overall. Game one went into extra innings tied at 5. Roger Williams won it in the 11th when junior Trevor Manzi, of Beverly via St. John's Prep, hit a walk-off homer to lift his team to the 6-5 win. Game two looked to be another close one, but the Hawks exploded in the sixth inning and won with a final score of 6-1.
