Monday's area roundup: Big Blue field hockey blanks Peabody


Peabody 1, Salem 0: The Tanners (4-1) scored in the 17th minute to win. Hayley Jellison and Katherine Towey played well on defense for Salem (3-3) while Alix Bryant had a strong showing in the midfield.

Beverly 7, Revere 0: Caitlin Harty netted the hat trick and Eva Gourdeau scored one goal and dished out two assists as the Panthers rolled. Jess Goodhall, Brandy Duzz and Caitlyn Munzing (1-1) also scored goals for Beverly (5-1-1). Diandra Crowley played well in the back for the Panthers.

Shawsheen 3, North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 0: Sophomore Sarah Cantwell stood out in net, stopping eight shots, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs (3-1-1) dropped their first game of the season.

Swampscott 1, Medford 0: Samantha Maher scored the games only goal nine minutes into the second half on an assist from Leah Dawley. Sam Rizzo made six saves for the shutout as the Big Blue (3-2-1) get ready for Winthrop tomorrow.

Danvers 7, Gloucester 0: Shannon Pohle pumped in three goals and Leah Ciampa earned another shutout as the Falcons (3-2 overall) stayed perfect in NEC action. Meaghan McKenna, Kylie Plaza, Allie Zunick and Devan Walsh also scored for Danvers and Meaghan McCarriston had a terrific game in the middle of the field.

Marblehead 1, Winthrop 0: Sarah Cullen buried a well struck cross from Mia Bongiorno with 15 minutes to play to keep the Magicians (3-0-1) unbeaten. Sweeper Kelly Mealey led a stout defensive effort along with Caroline Helmes, Abby LeBlanc and Megan Hanratty.


Saugus 46, Peabody 26: Matt Correale won his match, 5-4, and Chris Ciampa took his, 5 1/2-3 1/2, but the Tanners ultimately fell to 4-3-1.

Triton 135, Masconomet 134: The Chieftains lost a close one at Old Newbury with George May leading all scorers with 30 points. Fellow captain Joe Klingensmith also had 28 points for Masco (3-3).

Hamilton-Wenham 111, Rockport 108: Medalist Tom Riccio had 25 points as the Generals (3-4) prevailed at Rockport Country Club. Harrison O’Brien added 20 points and Cale Farnham, Dillon Durand and Nick Tufts each chipped in with 18 points.
