Salem Sound Coastwatch set to host Open Water Championships tomorrow

SALEM — Swimmers from across New England will converge at Forest River Park tomorrow to compete in the New England Open Water Championship Races at Salem Sound Coastwatch's (SSCW) annual Swim & Fin, Salem Harbor Open Water Swim. More than 200 swimmers are expected to attend the event, which will begin at 10 a.m.

Swimmers ages 8 to 68 are expected to participate in races from 5K (3.1 miles), 1 mile and 500 meters.

Among those taking part is Team USA Olympic swimmer Alex Meyer, the 10K winner at this year's USA Open Water National Championships and Gold Medalist at the 25K World Championships last year.

The Swim & Fin is the signature event of SSCW, the regional nonprofit environmental organization for Salem Sound. For more than 20 years, SSCW has been working to make coastal waters and beaches safe and healthy for families and children, as well as protecting habitats that nurture fish, birds, lobsters and other marine life.
