Masco baseball rolls to state championship

BROCKTON -- Masconomet Regional didn't just win the Division 2 state baseball championship this afternoon; they did so with authority.

The Chieftains scored five times in the first inning en route to a 10-2 pasting of Westwood High School at Campanelli Stadium. It is the program's second state title, joining the 2000 squad.

Senior captain Joe Klingensmith got the win on the mound for the Chieftains while also helping himself with an RBI double. Tommy Budrewicz stole home during his team's 5-run first inning while Chris Rich had a double and three RBI and Will Twiss added a two-run single.

Masconomet, the No. 2 seed in Division 2 North playoffs this spring, finished its season at 22-2.
