Last season: 8-11-1 (did not qualify for playoffs)
Head coach: Andrew Jackson (1st year)
Team captains: Alec DiGiorgio, Sr. F; Matt Cardillo, Sr. G.
Other key returnees: Ty Costello, Jr. D; Joe Griffin, Soph. D; Nick Aleckna, Jr. F; Anthony Anzalone, Sr. F.
Interesting newcomers: Vitaly Knowles, Soph. F; Mike Castro, Soph. F.
It’ll be a great season if: Team defense rises to the challenge each and every game for the Chieftains. Cardillo (7 wins, 3.12 GAA as a junior) is back for his second season as the team’s starter and has a talented, mobile group of defensemen in front of him. If Masconomet can find a way to score some goals, a return to the postseason could be on the horizon.
Last season: 9-8-4 (Fell in Division 1 preliminary round)
Head coach: Nicole Twomey (1st year)
Team captains: Alex Jones, Sr., G; Kendra Dow, Sr., F
Other key returnees: Nancy Palermo, Sr., D; Jensena Moner, So., F; Amanda Coppa, So., F; Dana Valletti, So., F.
It’ll be a great season if: They blend. The Chieftains have added Triton to a co-op mix that already includes Hamilton-Wenham, Georgetown, North Andover and Newburyport. They have one of the best goalies around in Alex Jones, so if they find a way to score, they’ll be in every game.
Last season: 14-7 (Lost to Lynn Classical, 49-46, in the Div. 2 North first round)
Head coach: Frank Shea (5th year)
Team captains: Chris Schleer, Sr. G; Tighe VanLenten, Sr. G
Other key returnees: Sean Antonuccio, Sr. F.
It’ll be a great season if: Schleer, VanLenten and Antonuccio can hold down the fort while the remaining players get experienced. Shea feels that he has some solid senior experience, and while the Chieftains aren’t necessarily young, they don’t have much in-game varsity experience.
Last season: 19-4 (Lost to Andover in Division 1 North final)
Head coach: Bob Romeo (11th year)
Team captains: Claudia Marsh, Sr. F; Abi Rose, Sr. G; Sarah Lang, Sr. G; Hannah Kiernan, Jr. G.
Other key returnees: Lexi Nason, Jr; F; Nicole Femino, Jr. F; Megan Letvinchuk, Jr; G; Meghan Collins, So. G.
It’ll be a great season if: “I can get the girls to grow into cohesive and confident team,” Romeo said. “We want to continue the success of the past few seasons. We’re a relatively inexperienced group, so getting better every day and getting more comfortable playing together is essential. We are working very hard, and how well we turn that hard work into positive results will dictate the level of success we have.”
Last season: 4-4
Head coach: Ben Hanchett (5th year)
Team captains: Ashley Sorel, Sr. freestyle, IM, breaststroke; Matt Neidhardt, Sr. diving; Emily Dow, Jr. butterfly
Other key returnees: Alex Galarneau, Soph. sprints.
It’ll be a great season if: “We can harness the talent that is present on the team and remain mentally tough all season,” Hanchett said.
Last season: 8-2
Head coach: Dana Picillo (7th year)
Team captains: Adam Murphy, Sr., Sprints; Alex Gikas, Sr., 600; Jake Moorman, Sr., Mile.
Other key returnees: Cam Hebert, Sr., 300/4x4 Relay; Austin Cashin, Jr., 300/4x4 Relay; Tristan Cluster, Jr., 300/4x4 Relay; Marco Caserta, Sr., Two-Mile; Justin Clark, Sr., 1000; Nolan Rice, Jr., High Jump/4x4 Relay; Simon Tardiff, Sr., Sprints.
It’ll be a great season if: “We can find a couple of hurdlers and shot putters,” Picillo said.
Last season: 7-3
Head coach: Steve Weitzler (1st year)
Team captains: Jackie Dziadosz, Sr., Distance; Emily Feltault, Sr., Distance; Maura Feltault, Sr., Distance; Kali Volchok, Sr., Middle Distance; Mila Zernich, Sr., Middle Distance.
Other key returnees: Maddie Goldstein, Sr., Distance; Kaleigh White, Jr., Sprints; Krista Moorman, Jr., Hurdles; Paige Pratt, Jr., Middle Distance; Lauren Drohosky, Soph., High Jump/Middle Distance.
It’ll be a great season if: “It will be contingent on our preparation, execution and commitment,” Weitzler said.
Last season: 16-8
Head coach: Todd Darling (1st year)
Team captains: Nick Rizza, Sr., 120 lbs.; Aaron Zackon, Sr., 138; Mike Bakanowsky, Sr., 195.
Other key returnees: Chase Jefferies (106), Ty Cameron (113), Kevin Gregorio (132), Derek Michaud (152) and Paul Arsenault (heavyweight).
It’ll be a great season if: “We’ll have a great season if the kids stay healthy, continue the same level of enthusiasm throughout the season that we saw the first week of practice and increase their expectations,” Darling said.
Last season: Boys: 10-2 (2nd at interscholastic meet); Girls: 6-4 (4th at interscholastic meet).
Head coach: Ryan Quinn (7th year)
Team captains: Boys: Jay Kraunelis, Cam Coleburn, Tim Dierze; Girls: Nichol Brown, Val Dorn, London Judge
Other key returnees: Marrgaret Maysek, Nathaniel Houston, Tyler Brown
It’ll be a great season if: Things come together. The ski season moves a little later than other winter sports, but the Chieftains are already doing dry land training and are hoping to be on the slopes in early January. Another solid showing at the interscholastic race in February.
