Beverly High Winter Sports Capsules 2012-13

(Continued)

It’ll be a great season if: “It’ll be a great season if we work hard, stay healthy, and be consistent. We have six new freshmen so even after losing six seniors we still have 16 strong gymnasts on our team this year.”

BOYS TRACK

Last season: 4-3

Head coach: Nelson DeSilvestre (18th year)

Team captains: Andrew Poveromo, Sr., High Jump/Hurdles; Michael Black, Sr., Middle Distance; Aren Seremla, Sr., Shot Put; Kenny Pierce, Sr., Sprints.

Other key returnees: Brendan Flaherty, Sr., Sprints; Alex Greco, Soph., Distance; Jay Richardson, Sr., High Jump/Hurdles; Dylan Perry, Sr., Middle Distance; Campbell Wood, Soph., Distance.

It’ll be a great season if: “We stay healthy,” said DeSilvestre. “High hurdles is an area of concern; otherwise we’ll be pretty solid. We have several football players, who will get a late start, and we have a big meet with Peabody early.”

GIRLS TRACK

Last season: 6-1

Head coach: Dave Jellerson (22nd year)

Team captains: Teresa Orr, Sr., Sprints; Nicole Kirsch, Sr., Shot Put; Madison Shropshire, Sr., Distance; Allison Collins, Sr., Distance.

Other key returnees: Nicole Demars, Jr., Distance; Kristen O’Connor, Jr., Sprints; Caitlin Harty, Jr., Sprints; Jessica Goodall, Jr., Distance; Kyra Richardson, Sr., Jumps; Katie Pietrini, Sr., Sprints.

It’ll be a great season if: “We can strengthen our middle distance. We’re solid in distance events, and sprinting and hurdles look very good. We need to reinforce the high jump and middle distance,” said Jellerson.

WRESTLING

Last season: 14-6

Head coach: Mark Thomas (7th year)

Team captains: Brian Perry, Sr., 220 lbs.

Other key returnees: Jonah Feingold, Jr., 120 lbs.; Nick Parianos, Sr., 132; Joe Kozlowski, Jr., 132; T.J. McGovern, Jr., 145; Tom Wilbur, Jr., 170; Sean Winston, Jr., 182/195; Brian Tripoli, Sr., 195; Pat Queiroz, Sr., 195/220.

It’ll be a great season if: “We can line up our weights so we’re spread out,” said Thomas, “because we have plenty of returnees.”
