North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie Winter Sports Capsules 2012-13

BOYS BASKETBALL

Last season: 6-15 (Did not qualify for the postseason)

Head coach: Jody Norton (seventh year)

Team captains: None named yet.

Other key returnees: Jordan Mendez, Sr. G; Elijah Alfred, Sr. C; Jaz Sanchez, Sr. G; Yordany Sanchez, So. F; Jared Farese, Sr. F; Jose Rodriguez, Sr. G; Cael Schaejbe, Sr. F; Matt MacNichol, Sr. F; Trace Schaejbe, So. G; Jeff White, Jr. G.

It’ll be a great season if: The Bulldogs fully commit to defense and develop some toughness. North Shore is experienced and athletic, but Norton doesn’t have much size to turn to. The only way to make up for that is by playing hard defensively and by making rebounding a team chore.

BOYS TRACK

Last season: 4-2

Head coach: Rick Gardella (sixth year)

Key returnees: Nick LeClair, Sr., High Jump/Sprints/Relay; Eric Comeau, Sr., 300/600/Relay; Doug Wilson, Jr., Hurdles/Sprints/Relay; Demir Taruz, Jr., Middle/Long Distance; Tim Pacini, Jr., Middle/Long Distance; Phil Simonton, Jr., Distance; Mike Tilton, Soph., Distance; Zach Stephanides, Soph., Sprints

It’ll be a great season if: “We can keep our numbers up, and the younger kids come along quickly,” Gardella said.

GIRLS TRACK

Head coach: Annie Bond (first year)

Key returnees: Kalee Silva, Jr., 1,000; Grace McNally, Sr., Hurdles/High Jump; Rosa Quirzo, Soph. Shot Put; Arianna Passinisi, Soph., Mile

It’ll be a great season if: “They continue to have a positive attitude and be motivated. The girls are enthusiastic and pumped,” Bond said.
