The Salem News
---- — Julianna Kostas has never received a grade lower than an A-minus at Masconomet. She’s never exhibited anything but her utmost leadership and effort on the field hockey field, the softball diamond, or the track.
Perhaps most importantly, she never shows anything but respect to classmates and teachers alike, and she never carries herself in a way that doesn’t radiate kindness.
As impressive as Kostas’ achievements are in education and athletics, it is often her personality that is highlighted by the Masconomet teachers, coaches and administration.
“Julianna’s academic skills are only surpassed by the personal qualities she possesses,” social studies teacher David Mitchell said. “Simply put, one cannot find a more wonderful person in the senior class. She is kind, caring, sincere and thoughtful. She reaches out to new and younger students in the school as a classmate and teammate and makes them feel welcome and involved. She has a wonderful sense of humor and a genuine enthusiasm for life.”
In a nutshell, Kostas is a well-respected member of the Masconomet community. She is a leader by example.
“She is loyal, humble, dedicated, diligent, intelligent, unselfish, completely dependable, hardworking and always does the right thing, no matter what the circumstances,” Masconomet softball coach Michael Gibeley said. “She is, without a doubt, one of the most impressive individuals I have ever had the privilege of coaching and knowing.”
Kostas ranks fifth in a class of 349 students and has a 5.057 grade point average on a 5.3 scale. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society and an AP Scholar. As a junior, she was a National Merit Commended Scholar and won the Wellesley College Book Award.
Athletically, Kostas is a captain for both the field hockey and softball teams and is a key member of the indoor track team. She was a Salem News all-star in field hockey and earned Cape Ann League All-League status this past season.
