May 28, 2009 12:36 pm Hamilton's traditional New England bandstand, the focal point of the eighth-annual Sundays in Patton Park concert series, will keep the town's musical tradition alive this summer. The free seven-week series will kick off June 21 with "Broadway in the Park," showcasing local talent and show tune favorites. All concerts begin at 5 p.m. Sundays, unless otherwise noted, and continue until 7 p.m. The bandstand, which was built and dedicated in 1993 as part of Hamilton's bicentennial celebration, has seen various music acts and styles including Bill Staines, Overdrive, Quintessential Brass and Mamadou. New this year is the first annual Community Block Party at the Community House of Hamilton and Wenham on June 12 from 5 to 10 p.m. with a barbecue, live music and children's activities to benefit the community house. Patton Park provides plenty of room to stretch out a blanket and have a picnic with family and friends, and don't worry about the bugs — they usually come out after dusk. Refreshments will also be available. In the event of rain, arrangements are made for an inside venue nearby. For more information call 978-468-4818. IF YOU GO Feel free to bring your own blanket and/or lawn chairs and a picnic The area around the bandstand is open and you might want to consider bringing sunblock, hats and/or other provisions for shade.
