It's a new year here at SHS, and Principal David Angeramo is more than happy with what this year, so far, has brought. "We have a lot to be excited about," says Angeramo. "It's almost as if there is a whole new improved attitude around the school."
Angeramo, who is in his second year as principal, has noticed the positive changes around the school. Since the beginning of the year, the attendance rate has been above 90 percent, which is a huge leap from the previous years. "The students are stepping up with the higher expectations in and around the classroom and they're also seeing the staff do the same," says Angeramo. "And that it just what we needed."
With everything going well so far this year, Angeramo envisions that things will only get better. Just as the Salem High School mission statement declares, this year is about "Taking Responsibility For Ourselves, Our Education, and Our Choices In Life."
Some might think this year is like a rebuilding year with all the new rules and regulations, but Angeramo believes otherwise. "The bar is being raised this year," says Angeramo. "But this is a year where the students will succeed the most, and more doors will be opened for them."
Angeramo gives the following advice to the class of 2008: "Time is going to fly by. So much is going to be going on. Preparing for the next step in your life can be stressful, but take everything one day at a time and keep your lives in perspective. This is an exciting time, so don't forget to take the time and enjoy your final year at Salem High."
