SHS unites to help injured student

SALEM — The Salem High School community came together by raising money for Greg Martinez, who was injured in a bike accident this fall.

Activities for the fundraisers included a walkathon and a dance. Major David Flores and the sophomore and ROTC classes sponsored the activities. During the walkathon, many people participated, like the sports teams, the cheerleaders, the National Honor Society, the ROTC, and other students who wanted to support Martinez during his recovery. The dance was an idea of one of the sophomore students in the ROTC, Travis Knorr. Teachers also came together to participate and talk about the events.

Major Flores said that these activities helped the Salem High Community come together to help Martinez. "All the students came together and gave team effort, and without team effort all of this wouldn't have been successful," Major Flores said. The people that helped have a sense of pride for helping the Martinez family out.

The whole ROTC group and friends wish him a full and speedy recovery, and hope to see him back in school.
