Embrace brings focus to gay-straight alliance

SALEM — Ms. Tara Cowe-Spigai and Ms. Maureen Sullivan, the advisors of the Embrace Club, came together to improve the activity TAD and make it a better and safer environment.

The Embrace Club used to be TAD, but was changed because students weren't showing up to meetings and others were dropping out. TAD didn't have a focus, so Cowe-Spigai and Sullivan asked students if they wanted to go back to the focus of a gay-straight alliance. The students generated the change. The Embrace Club has a focus that TAD was lacking.

The goal of the Embrace Club is to become a social and support group that will develop awareness through the school. They normally socialize and share a lot about their week, plan activities, and hang out. Their typical meeting includes questioning students as well as their straight allies. They meet every Thursday at 2:15 p.m. in room 241N.
