Lovely wins state Senate race, according to unofficial results

Salem City Council President Joan Lovely is the unofficial winner in her race for 2nd Essex state Senate in the Democratic primary.

Democrats Lovely, Governor's Councilor Mary-Ellen Manning, former Peabody state Rep. John Slattery, and former Governor's Councilor Edward Caroll are all vying to replace state Sen. Fred Berry, who chose not to seek reelection this year.

In Danvers, Lovely received 891 of the 1,616 votes cast for the state Senate race. Slattery follows with 400 votes, Manning with 262 votes and Carroll with 36 votes.
