SALEM — The annual North Shore Pride Parade and Festival took place June 22 in downtown Salem and on Salem Common. This year's theme was "Stonewall 50: Looking Back Marching Forward," which paid homage to the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, a 1969 uprising in New York City sparked by a police raid that was the catalyst for the gay rights movement. Denis Castleton, a Salem resident and Stonewall survivor, was the grand marshal for the parade.
