A day after a tornado touched down in Harwich and South Yarmouth, Gov. Charlie Baker on Wednesday plans to meet with emergency personnel and local officials on Cape Cod to discuss storm damage.
The 1 p.m. meeting at the Harwich Public Safety Facility is closed to press, with a media availability to follow.
Baker has spent the past few days in Colorado for a Republican Governors Association meeting. Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, in her capacity as acting governor, met with Barnstable County officials Tuesday evening.
The town of Harwich appears to have sustained the greatest amount of damage, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, and "significant" damage to wires, trees, homes and business was reported across eight communities in Barnstable County. Seventy-four percent of Chatham was without power Wednesday morning, with outages also logged in Harwich, Dennis, Yarmouth and Brewster, MEMA said.
