PEABODY — Crews are battling a working fire at 58 Pulaski St. Monday morning with one possible injury and issues evacuating workers from a large industrial property.
The fire was reported just before 10 a.m. in a commercial building off of Pulaski Street. It prompted a large response from Peabody firefighters as they battled issues evacuating people in the buildings, according to scanner reports.
Video from the scene showed smoke billowing from part of the old mill building, as well as fire erupting from the roof.
Scanner reports indicated all people in the building were out, but that one person had returned and later came out of a window. Then about five minutes later, another firefighter radioed in, saying, "be advised, I'm still finding workers in here." Asked to confirm that workers were still inside, the firefighter said "that's affirmative. I hope that's the end of it." That prompted a Salem fire crew to act as a second "rapid intervention team" to run more search efforts.
One person was taken to Mass. General Hospital from the scene, according to scanner reports.
