DANVERS — Conrad Garfield, 41, of Essex, has been identified as the sole operator and occupant of the vehicle that crashed at the Ferncroft Rotary on Route 1 in Danvers Tuesday afternoon.
Garfield was deceased at the scene, according to police.
Carrie Kimball, a spokeswoman for the Essex District Attorney's office, confirmed Wednesday that Garfield and a VW Atlas SUV were discovered by police around 2:50 p.m.
"The time, around 2:50 p.m., was the time of discovery of the vehicle and the deceased," said Kimball. "It is uncertain of the time that the crash took place."
The vehicle was discovered off the northbound side of the highway, at the rotary, which is just north of Route 62.
Troopers from Troop A, the state police accident reconstruction team and troopers assigned to the Essex DA's office were investigating.
