[Editor's note: This article has been updated to reflect a correction for Senior Day in the Park on Aug. 8.]

Beverly Homecoming kicks off Friday, marking its 54th year of lobster, fireworks, and family fun.

It starts downtown, with a cookout for veterans and their families at 4 p.m. Friday by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Ellis Square.

Over the next four days, residents and visitors can enjoy tennis, softball and baseball tournaments, boat races, a free Zumba class, the popular Lip Sync Extravaganza and more.

There's something for everyone. Tiny Tots Day on Sunday, Aug. 4, is all about the little ones, while senior citizens can enjoy a day at Lynch Park Thursday, Aug. 8. A Kids Carnival, complete with games, a dunk tank and prize activities, takes over the park Friday, Aug. 9.

Lobster Fest — on Wednesday, Aug. 7 this year — and the Homecoming Concert and Fireworks on the event's final day, Sunday, Aug. 11, typically draw the largest crowds. This year, to alleviate parking concerns, shuttles will run every 20 minutes from Pond Street to Lynch Park during these events. The senior center, at 90 Colon St., will also run a shuttle for senior citizens to Lobster Fest at 10:30 a.m. and noon with return trips from Lynch Park at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.

Additional overflow parking will be available in the Cove Community Center parking lot on East Corning Street, and the Beverly senior center on Colon Street also offers free transportation.

Beverly Homecoming Inc. and volunteers have been working year-round to plan this year's celebration. Medley Long III, president of Beverly Homecoming Inc., said purchases and donations help keep events like Lobster Fest and the fireworks display going.

Long said he often gets emails not only from Beverly residents, but from people who traveled longer distances to attend Beverly Homecoming who enjoyed the festival.

"It's exciting that it has the same effect on people years after they go to it," he said.
