IPSWICH — A 58-year-old Ipswich man was killed Tuesday night when he was struck by an SUV on Topsfield Road, police said.
The man was on his bike near the intersection of Congress Street around 6 p.m. when he was hit by a Jeep Compass driven by a 21-year-old Ipswich woman, police Chief Paul Nikas said in a statement.
The man was taken to Beverly Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with police. No charges or citations were filed at the time, and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
The victim was identified Wednesday afternoon by the Essex District Attorney's office as Eric Wilczek. The name of the woman driving the Jeep was not released.
Carrie Kimball, a spokeswoman for the DA's office, said no charges have been filed at this time against the driver. She said they would only release the driver's name if she is charged.
