DANVERS — A Danvers man has been charged by federal prosecutors with possession and distribution of child pornography.

Joseph Corbett, 50, of 20 Adams St., Danvers, was arrested Friday following an investigation by agents from the Department of Homeland Security, according to court documents.

Corbett, who made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Boston on Friday afternoon, was allegedly using the "Kik" app on a phone to download and share images of children engaged in sexual activity, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

In an interview with investigators Friday morning, Corbett allegedly told agents that he had been using the app to receive and pass along child pornography to other users.

Corbett allegedly admitted to being part of groups on the app that traded images, whose names included the word "young."

Corbett also admitted to having been kicked off the app, then rejoining under a different user name, according to the affidavit.

The initial search warrant had been granted after law enforcement received a tip about Corbett from the company that operates the Kik app.

Further investigation revealed that Corbett had continued to use the app as recently as this week, according to court papers.
