SALEM — Police were seeking a search warrant and an assailant last night after a dispute at Loring Towers on Loring Avenue that sent a man to Salem Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
The fight between two men, according to Salem detectives, was over a remark made about a woman.
Little information was available, but an early report of a stabbing proved untrue. Instead, Lt. Matthew Desmond said, the attacker used the butt end of a knife to injure his opponent. Police were seeking the search warrant to find the knife and will likely charge the suspect with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
According to one report via the police scanner, the victim was found on the ground outside of the building.
It's the same property where in April resident Dario L. Finkel was arrested after police said he shoved a baby wipe down his infant's throat and then tossed the child at his mother.
"There are a lot of issues and problems here," Lucas Guerrero said as he walked past a patrol car sitting outside of the massive 1000 Loring Ave. complex. "There are a lot of drugs here. And violence. And cars getting stolen."
Moreover, he said, it seems to be getting worse.
