DANVERS — A culinary arts teacher at Essex Tech in Danvers has been charged with sexually assaulting a student.

Robert Vandenbulcke, 62, of Salisbury, was arrested Wednesday by the Massachusetts state police violent fugitive apprehension team and is now in Danvers police custody.

He's scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Salem District Court on two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older.

The charges and arrest came after a parent contacted Danvers police on Nov. 12 about an incident at the school allegedly involving Vandenbulcke.

Danvers police said in a statement that their investigation, conducted with the Essex District Attorney's office, is ongoing, and as a result, they do not plan to release further details.

Vandenbulcke was a well-known restaurant owner in the Newburyport area in the 1990s, when he ran The Mall Restaurant on High Street. He had also worked at Greater Lawrence Tech.
