DANVERS — Police were called to Putnam Pantry at 3:33 p.m. Monday after a caller reported that a person at the landmark North Shore sweets shop was found inside the building, unresponsive.
Officers responding to the scene were directed to the rear area of the shop, which is located off Route 1 northbound at Maple Street (Route 62), in an area of the building that was undergoing remodeling. There they found the unresponsive body of a man.
EMTs were called, but they determined that the man, whom police believe to be an employee of the firm doing the remodeling, was dead, and the medical examiner was notified.
As of Monday evening, police did not believe the death to be suspicious and were classifying it as an unattended death.
The case was still under investigation, however, and they declined to release any additional information, pending further investigation.
