IPSWICH — Police are warning residents about a potential robocall phone scam in which a person claims to represent the town of Ipswich.
Police received a report Thursday from a resident who said they received a robocall from someone identifying themselves as a representative of the town. The person who reported the call told police that she quickly hung up because she believed the call to be a scam.
“Nobody from the town of Ipswich is making these calls to residents, so I urge residents to exercise caution and refrain from engaging anyone claiming to be calling about official town business,” said police Chief Paul Nikas in a statement. “The town only uses robocalls like these during emergencies or to provide notice of an upcoming Town Meeting, and never solicits personal information over the phone from residents.”
