DANVERS — A motorcyclist was severely injured Monday afternoon in a crash near the main entrance to the Liberty Tree Mall parking lot.
The intersection of Endicott Street and Commonwealth Avenue provides the main access to the lot from the thoroughfare along the front of the mall.
The first police radio broadcast, at approximately 3:30 p.m., advised of a car and motorcycle crash with injuries. This was followed quickly with a request for a MedFlight.
Danvers police confirmed that a 67-year-old male suffered severe injuries to his left leg in the crash.
In light of MedFlight having an estimated arrival window within 25 minutes, the victim was instead taken to Beverly Hospital via ambulance and MedFlight was redirected to Beverly for transfer to a Boston hospital, according to police transmissions at the time.
Police Lt. Ashley Sanborn said the intersection was temporarily shut down after the accident, and, as of 4:30 p.m., the center of the intersection remained closed, but traffic was still moving. Police later said the intersection was reopened at 5 p.m.
At this point, the accident is still under investigation, and no names or further information have been released.
