MIDDLETON — Just in time for Veterans Day, the American Legion Post 227 in Middleton got a significant makeover to its exterior facade.
One side of the building has been transformed into a work of art, serving as a canvas on which artist Philip Coleman of AngelMex 2 Studios painted a mural across the 20-by-25-foot wall.
Appropriately, Coleman’s design focused on a patriotic theme. It features a centerpiece of a large bald eagle superimposed on an American flag, as well as the service seals of the five military branches and a soldier in relief.
Coleman worked on the project from September through Nov. 1, and contributions of materials were made by Dawson’s Hardware, Aulson Co. and Middleton resident Bobby Johnson, along with participants in fundraisers held by Post members.
The formal, public unveiling of the mural will take place after a Veterans Day memorial service on Wednesday. The service is 11 a.m. at the Flint Library veterans memorials, followed by a collation at Post 227, located at 69 River St.
