To the editor:
I was pleasantly surprised when I went to the Saint Mary’s Cemetery on North Street in Salem on the day before Memorial Day to place a flag and flowers on my husband’s grave and on my uncle’s grave.
I was surprised to see a flag already there, and I thought “what kind of person did this?”
There were flags on all the veterans’ graves. Some of the veterans probably don’t have family to do this any more. This took a long time and quite a few volunteers.
I don’t know who did this, but they are unsung heroes in my book. A great big thank you to you.
