To the editor:
The amazing Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old girl on the autistic spectrum, who is fluently bilingual in Swedish and English, was taunted by our president over her deep concern and actions over climate change. He tweeted sarcastically, “She seems to be a very happy young girl, looking forward to a bright and wonderful future.” And then he skipped the UN climate change forum and headed up a religious freedom conference (this from the man who wanted to ban Muslims from coming to our country).
One of Trump’s favorite Fox News commentators, Laura Ingraham, compared Greta to murderous children in a Stephen King novel. Fox News of course had no comment about her vicious attack and took no action about her terrible lies, although her brother has publicly denounced her.
Eloquently, this 16 year old, with tears in her eyes, called out “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk abut is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth.” Greta Thunberg is about the same age as one of Trump’s children — from the generation that may well have to endure what Trump has ignored, mocked and denied. I wonder if Trump ever thinks about that. Or has he (and others like him) a golden plan for himself and his family to escape the miseries that terrify Greta and so many others?
