To the editor:

In about three weeks, on Monday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Salem Willows Band Shell, the Salem Community Band and Jazz Band will play our 11th annual summer concert. I would love to urge everyone who can to come. This is a beautiful annual event at a lovely location here in Salem.

Music and, in particular, community bands like ours, are vital not only for the experience that those of get while being able to play with a great group of people, it also enriches our lives and gives us the chance to perform when we otherwise wouldn’t be able to. Music education is important, and with cuts being made in certain towns, it makes me realize how lucky we are here in Salem to have this wonderful experience, organized and conducted each year by Cynthia Napierkowski. So, not only do I want to thank Mrs. Napierkowski for pulling this event off each and every year, but I would also like to thank the parents and members who come out and support us each year. By getting the word out, I hope that even more people will come out and hear us perform, because, it’s only with the support of an entire community that we can help keep music education alive in the public schools at a time when it is very much needed.
