To the editor:

I thought the text of the front page news article of Friday, Oct. 25, about Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll’s proposal to remove the portrait of President Andrew Jackson from the City Council chambers and replace it with a new painting of a female member of the Naumkeag tribe, was well-written. But whoever wrote the headline obviously hadn’t read the article.

Shouldn’t that headline have read “President Jackson’s portrait may make way for Naumkeag leader,” rather than “President Jackson’s portrait to make way for Naumkeag leader?”

A revealing slip on the part of The Salem News editorial staff.
