To the editor:
I’d like to thank everyone who helped in the success of the Peabody City Council’s second annual Dan Pimenta Long Drive and Golf Ball Drop at the Meadow at Peabody Golf Course on June 22. The event was very successful, raising approximately $8,000 to be used as we work together to battle the opioid epidemic. Funds previously raised have provided two public service scholarships to graduating seniors, Narcan kits and training across the city, as well as support for local recovery efforts provided by Citizens’ Inn, Torigian Family YMCA and The Colton Buckley Foundation.
These goals could not have been reached without the generosity of the following local sponsors (*denotes returning sponsors):
Gold sponsors: Gravoc*, Planet Aid*, 795 Jubilee LLC*, Kouzin 7 LLC*, and Gallo Nero*.
Silver sponsors: Jack Keilty*, Rousselot, and the Spare Time Tavern*.
Bronze sponsors: State Rep. Tom Walsh, The Dogmother LLC*, Ginger’s Closet, The Auto Factory, John Bator Plumbing and Hinchion Plumbing and Heating.
Generous gift certificate donations wre provided by the following local restaurants:
Brodie’s Pub, Toscana’s Ristorante, Champion’s Pub, Kelley Square Pub and Santarpio’s Pizza.
A special thank you to the following volunteers who helped with everything from securing sponsors, ticket sales, ground crew and scooping ice cream: Sharon Cameron, Catherine Manning, John Manning, Viana Kotchian, Mariana and Councilor Ryan Melville, Jaclyn Corriveau, Peter Cronan, Kate Fabrizio, Todd Buckley, Cathy and Councilor Dave Gravel, Councilor Joel Saslaw, Councilor Pete McGinn, and our new fire chief, Joe Daly!
A huge shout out to Julie Daigle and the Peabody Chamber of Commerce for providing the event with gifts and prizes for participants, to the PMLP and Light Commissioner Bill Aylward for the assist with the bucket truck for the Golf Ball Drop, to former Ward 6 Councilor Barry Sinewitz and Thriftco Printing and Councilor Tom Gould and Treadwell’s for their continued support of this annual event.
Congratulations to the Long Drive winners: Defending champ Johnnie Boudrow, 308 yards; John Manning, 290 yards; and defending champ Jaclyn Corriveau, 230 yards. And to Golf Ball Drop winners: Numbers 413, 358, 463, 402, and 495.
We hope to see you all again next year for this fun family charity event.
