To the editor:
For the past eight years, I served as treasurer of the Acord Food Pantry in Hamilton.
During my tenure in that capacity, I was continually astonished by the generosity of the people in our community. From the teens who held fundraisers and donated turkey dinners on Thanksgiving to the younger schoolchildren who came up with some remarkably creative ways to raise money for Acord (e.g., amazing Christmas ornaments). This community has outdone itself in the past.
One of my favorite times as treasurer was going to the post office to check the mail after the fall Public Safety Food Drive. I would bring back stacks of envelopes and show the volume of mail to the volunteers, who would cheer at our great fortune. Our donations came from so many people giving what they could; it made everyone feel incredibly lucky they lived in such a special community.
This year, we had a post-office delivery problem with our newsletter and we know that many in our community did not receive them before Nov. 19 (the day of our fall food drive). As a result, we received much less food and financial help than is typical for this time of year.
So if you haven't yet given, we could really use your help. We are so fortunate to have a beautiful permanent location back on Willow Street, but the multiple moves have resulted in some additional, one-time expenses.
Having observed this community's generosity, I know making everyone aware of Acord's financial need is the first step in getting help.

Thanks to everyone for making this the kind of community we are all proud to call home.
