Ramon Martinez

Pedro Martinez’s older brother, Ramon, also played for the Red Sox before Pedro arrived in 1998. The duo did spend parts of two seasons together in 1992 and 1993 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

When Pedro was traded from Los Angeles to the Expos, Montreal teammate Marquis Grissom announced that it was the “deal of the century... for the Dodgers.”

When the Dodgers told Ramon and Pedro they could not pitch in the Dominican Winter League, they formed a softball team to tour the country so Dominicans could still see their heroes in action. Ramon played first, Jesus center field and Pedro was the DH.

In 1997, Pedro became the first righthander to register 300+ strikeouts with a sub-2.00 ERA since Walter Johnson in 1912.

Pedro is an honorary colonel in the Dominican Air Force.

If a movie is ever made of his life, Pedro wants Denzel Washington to play him.
