BEVERLY — A terrific campaign for the Landmark School boys cross country team was punctuated by two season-defining triumphs to end the year.

Landmark won the Eastern Independent League (EIL) championship on Nov. 1, then followed it up last weekend by capturing first place in Division 4 at the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) championships, which was comprised of 179 prep schools from across New England.

Peter O'Connor finished fourth overall in the Division 4 NEPSAC race to lead Landmark. Teammates Mark Jaklitsch finished in fifth place while Kevin Richardson placed seventh; the trio combined for 58 points for Landmark. More than 30 schools participated in the race, made up of 160 runners.

O'Connor, Jaklitsch, Richardson and teammate Sebastian Abate were all named New England All-Stars and will compete at the NEPSAC All-Star Meet next week.

“This win is a first for Landmark School," said the school's athletic director, Brook Sumner. "Our cross-country program has grown greatly over the past few years. Coaches Tom O’Riordan and Kevin Robertson should be commended for extraordinary leadership.

"The team worked hard all season long, set impressive goals for themselves, and practiced day in and day out with grit and determination. They have earned this recognition.”
