Leete repeats as NEC Wrestler of the Year

Max Leete is already running out of room in his trophy case.

Voted Outstanding Wrestler at just about every meet he's competed in this season, the Danvers High junior was chosen at the Wrestler of the Year in the Northeastern Conference for a second straight season. The NEC/CAL champion at 126 pounds, Leete was joined on the NEC's first-team all-conference squad by teammate Russ Canova.

Beverly, which went unbeaten against NEC teams and was the first conference squad to win the combined NEC/CAL meet, saw Paul Casey honored as Coach of the Year along with first-team All-NEC nods for Garret McNeil (106), Jack Rivers (138) and Jonas Pavia (195).

Also earning three first-team All-NEC nods was the Marblehead/Swamspcott co-op, which was runner-up to Beverly for the dual meet title. Connor O'Brien (113), John Cohen (132) and Nick Sirota (152) were the first-teamers for the "Black and Blue."

NEC/CAL 220-pound champion Phil Makoci was named first-team All-NEC for the Peabody/Saugus co-op, as was teammate Doug Clark at heavyweight (285). Calvin Dalton of Salem earned a first-team nod at 120 while Gloucester's new squad had an impressive three first-teamers: Liam Donahue (145), Quinten Ulrich (160) and Jason Healey (170).

Salem got the NEC Team Sportsmanship Award. The second-team NEC all-stars were as follows, listed by team:
