Registration is now open for group and private ice skating lessons for hockey and figure skating skills badge program. New sessions start in January with prorate for late starts/start any time. There are groups for boys and girls ages 5-12, teens, tiny tots and adults. Classes are held Saturdays at 1 pm and Tuesdays at 6 pm at Talbot Rink in Gloucester, and private lesson ice is offered on Saturdays 10 am-2 pm, Tuesdays 6-8 pm and Sundays 8-10 am. The North Shore Softball Umpires Association (NSSUA) will be offering a softball umpire school in late March early February. Anyone interested in becoming a softball umpire for high school & recreation softball can be certified by attending the school. School will be held from 6:30 - 9 pm for eight consecutive weeks starting the third week in January, site to be determined at a later date. Registration for the 2017 Salem Little League softball and baseball will open with early bird registration on Saturday, January 7 and Saturday, January 14 from 11-1pm at Salem State University South Campus, Harrington Building, 11 harrison Road in Salem. Returning players from 2016 must also register for 2017. Parents of new players will need to bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate, a Massachusetts License or current picture ID., and two other documents showing proof of Salem residence, such as car registration and utility bills. Children must have been born in 2012 or earlier to participate. Children born in 2013-present are not eligible. We are also looking for volunteers for coaching and an application can be completed at registration for those interested. Registration fees are as follows for the two afforementioned dates (rates go up after Jan. 14.): T-Ball per player: ONLY $30; One player baseball/softball: $120; Two players baseball/softball: $200; Three or more players baseball/softball: $260.
