Swampscott 5, Austin Prep 2: Meeting the top-seed Cougars for the fifth straight year in the playoffs, the Big Blue finally tasted victory. Junior Jonathan Oriakhi’s 2-run single in the top of the seventh broke a 2-2 tie and senior Max Pegnato gutted out a complete game victory to send Swamspcott (14-8) to the semi’s for a second straight season. Dylan January’s seventh homer of the year erased a 2-0 Cougar lead and senior Ryan Graciale also drove home a run in the seventh. Pegnato scattered nine hits and fanned six, working out of numerous jams to earn his second win of the playoffs.

St. John’s Prep 4, Franklin 1: Max Gieg got out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth and St. John’s scored three in the top half to keeps its season alive in the Super 8. Brady O’Brien’s 2-run single broke a 1-1 tie in the last at-bat for the Prep (19-5) and senior Alex Lane added an insurance RBI single. Gieg went the final 3 2/3 innings with six strikeouts to earn the win, allowing no hits and working around four walks. Zach Fortuna fanned five over 5 1/3 frames and Jake Miller was drive in by Jack Cairns for an early 1-0 lead. Lane and D.J. Brooks had two hits each and Max Freedman scored for St. John’s, which faces the winner of Tuesday’s BC High/Mansfield bout later this week.

Snowden 10, Hamilton-Wenham 5: The defending champion Generals were ousted from the Division 4 North field when No. 2 Snowden exploded for seven runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings. Conor Evers had three RBI and Will Jones had a pair of hits as H-W (14-9) built leads of 3-2 and 5-3 but committed four errors and couldn’t hang on. Jones also fanned four in a solid relief appearance and Keegan O’Shea worked two walks and scored.



Newburyport 3, Marblehead 2: For the second straight year, the Magicians (20-3) were ousted from the Division 2 North tourney in a razor thin match with the Clippers. Newburyport won both doubles matches and took third singles all by identical 4-6, 5-7 scores. Michelle Shub (6-0, 6-0) and Hannah Porath (6-1, 6-2) got the wins for the Magicians.



Triton 11, Essex Tech 3: The Vikings jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and limited the Hawks (15-7) to four hits to advance to the Division 2 North semifinals. Riley Mannion went 2-for-3 and an RBI for Essex Tech while Emily Graham and Mya Doucette both drove home a run. Ally Flagg and Emily Atwood also had hits and Sheree Fallon and Graham pitched admirably but Triton struck four three homers.
