Swampscott 4, Medford 1: Mackenzie Kearney scored twice and assisted on another while Haley Bernhardt also connected twice as the Big Blue (9-5-1) officially punched their ticket to the state tournament. Sydney Clark and Anna Marston also had goals, while midfielders Grace DiGrande and Sarah Tribendis had excellent games. Central defender Emma Fogg was also a standout.
Covenant Christian Academy 8, Woodward School 1: Sophomore Hannah Saulnier of Manchester scored four goals and freshman Glorious Maina added her first goal of the season to power the Cougars (now 8-1). Sophomore Rachel Nelson added a goal and an assist, with senior captain Tori Knowlton and freshman Caelen Breuer also had goals. Freshman Madeline McNeilly added three assists in the win.
Essex Tech 0, Rockport 0: Goalkeeper Olivia Cassidy picked up her eighth shut out of the year while center defender Skylah Mahon turned in a terrific effort as well, but the Hawks couldn’t break a scoreless tie and now sit at 11-3-1 on the season.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Peabody 15, Lynn Classical 50: Kaitlin Gorman was first across the finish line with a time of 21:18 to pace the Tanners (6-2) in their final regular season tune up. Shannon O’Connell finished second in 21:21 and Samantha Truong ran well in third at 22:50.
Peabody 3, Wakefield 1: Jillian Alimonti had nine kills and came up with three aces as the Tanners (13-3) picked up an impressive non-league win 25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 25-18. Julissa Dailey had a strong all-around game for Peabody both offensively and picking up defensive digs.
Ipswich 3, St. Jospeh’s 0: The Tigers (10-7) clinched a winning record for the season with the 25-16, 25-10, 25-21 sweep. Haley O’Connor, Mikayla Koerber and Grace Quinn had strong games in the passing and setting department while Emily Davidson, Ava Huntley and Meghan O’Connor handled the kills. Lauren Kennedy, Talia Kaplanian and Lilly Sheridan served well for Ipswich.
Masconomet 3, Marblehead 1: Middle hitter Brianna Kelly’s nine kills, five blocks and eight digs helped the Chieftains (13-4) win this battle of playoff-bound clubs 25-14, 15-25, 25-8, 26-24. Senior Ryder Burliss had 21 digs along with six kills for Masco while Mandy Dumais paced the Magicians (11-4) with 30 digs and Izzy Curtin had 20 assists. Anna Arbo added seven kills.
Bishop Fenwick 3, St. Mary’s 0: The Crusaders (now 8-8) picked up a 25-11, 25-22, 25-11 sweep thanks to six kills from junior weakside hitter Olivia DiPietro.
Salem Academy 3, Community Charter 1: The Navigators cruised to a 25-13, 25-17, 21-25, 25-19 triumph on the heels of Maddie Luciano’s 11 aces and Charysee Espinal and Angelica Pierce’s four kills apiece. Salem Academy is now 11-3 on the year.
Essex Tech 3, Greater Lowell 0: The Hawks (14-4) cruised to victory on Senior Night, 25-22, 25-13, 25-13. Seniors Emily Edge (7 kills), Geena Stasiuk (11 kills) and Sara Leger (2 kills) had standout performances.
St. John’s Prep 3, St. John’s Shrewsbury 0: Steven Yakita netted his 20th goal of the season and assisted on tallies by Mitch Collins and Sam Smith as the Eagles (13-0-3) took care of a Pioneer club they’d tied earlier in the season. Keeper Cam Buckley made six saves for the shutout while defender Andrew Woolston had a solid all-around 90 minutes.
Whittier 2, Essex Tech 0: The Hawks were shut out in falling to 6-7-3 on the season despite a strong effort at midfield from Terrence Martinez.
Somerville 6, Peabody 1: The Tanners couldn’t keep pace with a strong Somerville squad, falling to 7-7-1 on the season. Kevin Aroke had the lone Peabody goal, while Troy Cappos did his part in net making 14 saves. The Tanners need three points over their final three games to qualify for the state tournament.
Rockport 1, Hamilton-Wenham 0: The Generals dipped to 4-11-2 and will try to get a victory in their last game of the season Wednesday against Georgetown.
Masconomet 1, Lynnfield 0: Nicole Amyouny scored the game’s lone goal on an assist from Mak Graves to propel Masconomet (12-3-2) to victory. Sophia Gardner and Abbie Boyle were stout defensively in the win.
Danvers 2, Wilmington 2: Ella Brinkley and Erica Haibon had the goals for Danvers, now 6-4-6, which officialy qualified for the state tournament. Kelley Marmen handed out an assist; Brigid Churchill made eight saves to secure the draw and Bella Silva, Shelby Johnson, Molly Thibodeau (her eighth defensive save) and Emma Thibodeau had strong games on defense.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER
Emmanuel 1, Salem State 0: The Vikings (9-6-1) had their two-game win streak broken as they were blanked at home. Salem State goalie Rebecca Sabino of Peabody made three stops in the net and Emmanuel netted the game’s lone goal in the first half.
