2019 Salem News boys soccer Player of the Year

Stats don't always tell the whole story, and Eagles' do-it-all senior Zachary Davis is living proof of that.

Sure, the reliable midfielder chipped in six goals (including a late-season hat trick) and eight assists on the year, but it was his overall presence on the pitch that shined brightest. Whether he was scoring or not, Davis was regularly the best player on the field.

His intelligence and IQ for the game was perhaps most prominent in his final Eagles' campaign, and he always seemed to do the little thing to help his team win. Whether that was setting up a teammate for a smooth transition score, winning a critical 50/50 ball, or locking down the opposing team's top player, Davis always made the impact plays. He consistently earned praise from opposing coaches as he caused fits for worthy competitors game in and game out.
