2019 SALEM NEWS GIRLS SOCCER PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Cassie Jones

Cassie Jones

CASSIE JONES

Beverly Senior

Forward

One of the most selfless and all-around skilled soccer players to come through Beverly High in a while, Cassie Jones certainly saved her best for last.

A three-year varsity all-star, Jones posted career-bests of 30 goals and 38 points to lead both the Panthers and the North Shore in scoring. In addition, she earned first-team All-Northeastern Conference distinction and a spot on the Division 2 Eastern Mass. all-star squad.

One of the area's most dangerous players one-on-one, Jones was adept at dribbling around defenders while maintaining possession. Her goals came in a variety of ways — she could score by speeding by the defense, shooting into small windows with opponents draped all over her, or using her body to redirect the ball on set pieces.

With two points in a come-from-behind tie with rival Danvers, Jones helped the Panthers earn a share of the NEC North title for only the second time in the last 20 years. A true three-zone player, she had an all-star sophomore season up top, shifted to defense for the good of the team as a junior and then had an incredible final campaign back at her natural position attacking the goal.

A gifted student, Jones ranks No. 14 in Beverly's High's senior class of 290 students and will graduate with more than 60 career goals and more than 85 career points. Thankful to coaches Sam Charest and Kristin and Doc Simpson, Jones will continue her career on the pitch at Division 1 University of New Hampshire next year.
