BOYS HOCKEY

Last year’s record: 13-16

Head coach: Chris Connolly (2nd season, 13-16)

Captains: Sean O’Connell, Sr. F/D; Kyle Emery, Sr. D; Brendan Parent, Sr. F.

Other key players: Vito Visconti, Jr. F; Alex Suny, Jr. D; Matt Hulse, Jr. F; Paul Duffy, Soph. F; Christian DiMeglio, Soph. F; Shea Grant, Soph. G.

Home rink: Johnson Rink, Pingree School, South Hamilton

Outlook: After piling up the program’s most victories in a decade last winter, the Highlanders are hoping to eclipse that this season. O’Connell led the club in assists (34) and points (44) a year ago, while Visconti returns after putting up 10-20-30 totals as a sophomore. There is more experience this time around and a deeper team, bolstered by some talented young players. Still, there are just three seniors on the roster, and Pingree must continue to improve on special teams and make sure its overall compete level is constantly high to have the success they’re hoping for.

Outlook: The Highlanders return their entire top line and 55 total goals from last’s club, led by super sophomore Katelyn Clarke (25 goals as a freshman). Juniors Rachel Tammaro and Alex Robertson each have more than 50 career points, and with a strong freshman class that had success in field hockey, it looks like Pingree has plenty of offensive firepower. Sophomore goalie Callie MacLaughlin won five games last year and will get the lion’s share of the minutes. Pingree always playing a difficult non-league slate but could certainly contend with Berwick for the EIL crown.
