Last year’s record: 17-4 (lost to Lowell in Division 3 North quarterfinals)

Head coach: Gino Faia (18th season, 147-177-26)

Captains: Dom Codispoti, Sr. D; Dan Johnson, Sr. G; Jack Poska, Sr. D; Stevie Santanello, Sr. C.

Other key players: Brett Benoit, Sr. F; Thomas O’Keefe, Sr. F; Zach Elwell, Jr. F; Conor Donovan, Soph. F; Drew Olivieri, Soph. F; Casey Williamson, Jr. F; Chris Barnes, Soph. D.

Home rink: Richard H. Rockett Arena, Salem State University

Outlook: After a stunning first round tourney loss last winter (in which they were the sectional’s top seed), the Big Blue want to do whatever to takes to return to postseason play and erase that bitter memory. Having Johnson, a four-year starter in goal, is a great starting point; so are the team’s other five seniors and two solid scoring lines, led by Santanello (30 points a year ago). There’s some inexperience other than that and depth could be an issue, but Swampscott still has the horses to compete for a Northeastern Conference South title and punch their playoff dance card again.

(co-op with Marblehead)

Last year’s record: 3-14

Head coach: Alex Carew (11th season)

Team captains: Being selected this week

Outlook: The Black and Blue wrestling crew — known as such for a combination of the colors of Marblehead and Swampscott High — have some strong competitors back in the fold. As of one of the few Division 3 teams in the rugged Northeastern Conference, dual meets are a challenge for the Marblehead/Swampscott squad, but they’ll surely be a factor in the matches they can fill.
