BOYS HOCKEY

Last year’s record: 12-14-1

Head coach: Chris Connolly (3rd season, 25-30-1)

Team captains: Alex Suny, Sr. D; Christian DiMeglio, Jr. F (asst. captain); Matt Hulse, Sr. F (asst. captain)

Other key players: Vito Visconti, Sr. F; Brendan Driscoll, Jr. F; Ian Driscoll, Soph. F; Paul Duffy, Jr. F; Hazen Pike, Soph. F; Amogh Prakash, Sr. F; Will Halecki, Soph. F; John Crehan, Jr. D; Rob Carpentier, Sr. D; Tyler McGoldrick, Sr. D; Henry Chabot, Jr. G; Cam Brown, Soph. G.

Home rink: Johnson Rink, Pingree

Outlook: The Highlanders have a boatload up speed up front, and two solid scoring lines in Duffy-DiMeglio-Visconti and the Driscoll brothers with Hulse. Suny, a minute muncher on defense, will play major minutes on the back end along with the equally talented Crehan. Cabot and Brown — the latter of whom transferred in from Marblehead High — will battle for playing time between the pipes. If things come together, Pingree hopes to contend for a small school prep playoff bid.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Last year’s record: 4-16-1 (Lost in EIL semifinals)

Head coach: Jim McLaughlin (3rd season 12-27-3)

Team captains: C’s: Izzy DiAdamo, Sr., D; Katelyn Clarke, Jr., F; A’s: Rachel Tammaro, Sr., F; MacKenzie Vasque, Sr., F.

Other key players: Una Carroll, So., F; Addy Fenton, Jr., D; Callie MacLaughlin, Jr., G; Charlotte Maravelis, So., D; Isabel Marble, So., F; Elizabeth Zelten, Jr., D; Kate Hill, So., F; Kate Lucy, So., F.

Home rink: Johnson Rink, Pingree

Outlook: It’s a young group with just three seniors, though having returning leading scorer Katelyn Clarke back to share the captain’s duties with seniors Izzy DiAdamo (defense) and Rachel Tammaro and MacKenzie Vasque (forwards) is a big help. Pingree looks solid in the back end with DiAdamo and junior Addy Fenton leading the group, and junior Callie MacLaughlin is very good in goal. The Highlanders non-league slate is always challenging, but if they can build some depth and get contributions from the newcomers they can definitely contend in the EIL.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Last year’s record: 15-10

Head coach: Steve Gibbs (16th season)

Team captains: Felix Kloman, Jr., G/F; Jake Spaulding, Sr., G/F; Harrison Latimer, Sr., F; Charlie Nowell, Sr., F.

Other key players: Cleto Chol, Fr., F/C; Adam Albren, Jr., G; Dillon Smith, Jr., G.

Home court: Pingree Athletic Center

Outlook: Losing leading scorer Ricky Arias to graduation certainly stings, but the Highlanders return plenty of key varsity players from a season ago. Felix Kloman is in store for a breakout season and 6-foot-6 freshman Cleto Chol should provide a huge boost off the bench.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Last year’s record: 15-8

Head coach: David Latimer (3rd season)

Team captains: Sarah Faulkner, Sr., F.; Olivia Adamic, Sr., G.; Colby Shea, Sr., PG

Other key players: Abbey Skinner, Jr., F; Alana Richardson, Jr., G; Madison Mandalinci, Jr., G; Kendall Travis, So., G

Home court: Pingree Athletic Center

Outlook: The Highlanders got a massive addition during the off-season in transfer Abbey Skinner. The former Danvers all-star will provide Pingree with a tough presence in the paint and a weapon for senior captain Colby Shea — arguably one of the best players in the state. Players like Madison Mandalinci, Alana Richardson and captain Liv Adamic will give the Highlanders.

SWIMMING

Last year’s record: 2-6

Head coach: Beth Aylmer (1st season)

Team captains: Katherine Haas, Sr.; Joan Kiely, Sr.; Anna Sandt, Sr.

Other key swimmers: Isabelle Job, Jr.; Dylan Roberts, Soph.; Catherine Curry, Fr.

Home pool: Salem YMCA

Outlook: “We are hoping the girls have fun, get new PR’s and that we have some individual medalists/top 8 finishers at EI’s and New Englands,” said first-year coach Beth Aylmer.
