Five players from the top seeded St. John’s Prep lacrosse team have been selected to this year’s Catholic Conference all-star team.

The Eagles, who will take a 17-3 record into Monday’s Division 1 North sectional semifinal game against Central Catholic at home (7 p.m.), saw senior attackmen Jake Surette and Pat Keefe, sophomore midfielder Michael Kelly, senior faceoff specialist/middie Craig Yannone and senior defenseman Drew Leahy all picked as league all-stars.

Surette leads the Eagles in scoring with 25 goals, a team-high 39 assists and 64 points and has 164 career points (57 goals, 107 assists) heading into Monday night’s playoff clash.

Keefe is the team leader in goals (45) and has 59 points this spring after missing all of last year with an injury. He has 87 career goals and 110 total points.

Kelly checks in with 26 goals and 17 assists from his midfield post, while Yannone has scored 14 goals while winning an even 70 percent (178-of-254) of his faceoffs.

Sophomore midfielder Michael Kelly was one of five Catholic Conference all-star selections from the league champion St. John’s Prep Eagles this spring.


Leahy is a lockdown defender, the leader of a St. John’s Prep unit that has allowed a shade over six goals per game.

In addition, St. John’s Prep’s John Pynchon has been selected as the Catholic Conference Boys Lacrosse Coach of the Year after his squad went a perfect 8-0 to capture the league title during this season.
