Tim Cassidy Jr. has led Cushing Academy to the Central New England Prep School championship after a 1-0 victory over Phillips Exeter Academy in Worcester.

Swampscott native Tim Cassidy Jr. capped a terrific high school baseball season off with a championship performance on the mound.

A junior at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Cassidy threw a shutout against Phillips Exeter Academy at Holy Cross College in Worcester, 1-0, to give his team the Central New England Prep School championship.

Cassidy allowed just six hits and two walks while striking out eight batters as he pitched into the seventh and final inning. In doing so, Cassidy gave the Penguins (17-3) their first league championship in eight seasons.

Cassidy was also selected by the league coaches to the Central New England Prep School all-star team.

Cushing, which set a school record for wins this season, won their eighth CNEPS title in the tournament's 27-year history.
